Description
The Nannyberry is a shrub native to the eastern 1/2 of the U.S. It has been shown to be hardy in zones 2-8. Nannyberry is considered a large shrub or small tree as it can grow to 15ft tall. Nannyberry prefers rich moist soil in partial to full sun.Has a nice white flower in the late spring with fleshy black fruit in the fall, they are quickly consumed by the birds. Usually flower about May 15th here in Iowa. Great for pollinator species.
Nannyberry does sucker up from the roots so spacing from larger windbreak or shelterbelt tress need to be considered, and recommended 20 ft. from that row. Fall color can be a nice red, or in some years there is no fall color at all. Grows well with the other viburnam species.
