Description

Description

White Oak Family.

The Chinkapin Oak has a spreading canopy that is supported by strong branches.  Chinkapin Oak is a prominent beautiful tree that makes a statement.  It would make a great shade tree in your lawn or a park.   In the fall the leaves turn yellow to burgundy to orangish-brown in color.    In Iowa the Chinkapin oak tree does very well in high PH limestone bluffs and well in other soils.  The acorns are  medium to small and are sweet. Chinkapin oak acorns are the preferred food for birds, white-tailed deer, chipmunks and squirrels.
