BlackIce™ Plum is a hardy hybrid plum prized for its large fruit, exceptional winter hardiness, and very early ripening season. A cross between a cherry plum and a traditional Japanese dessert plum, it combines superior cold tolerance with the size and quality of popular conventional plum varieties.
This variety produces large, dark purple fruit with juicy, sweet flesh. Yields and fruit size are comparable to well-known dessert plums, but BlackIce™ ripens 2–4 weeks earlier—giving growers a valuable head start on the season. It has proven hardy and productive even in USDA Zone 3b, making it an excellent choice for northern climates where many plums struggle.
Its naturally compact growth habit makes it easy to prune, harvest, and manage in home orchards or smaller landscapes.
