Description

Description

Red Splendor Crabapple is a hardy, attractive flowering crabapple known for its rosy red spring blossoms, excellent disease resistance, and persistent bright red fruit. Developed by Melvin Bergeson of Fertile, Minnesota, this variety has an upright, somewhat open and spreading form.

The small, bright red fruit is about 1 inch in diameter and remains on the branches throughout the winter rather than dropping to the ground, making it a low-litter choice for the landscape. The persistent fruit also provides an excellent food source for birds and other wildlife. Glossy reddish-green foliage adds summer interest before turning reddish-purple in fall.

  • Mature Height: 15–25 feet
  • Mature Width: 12–20 feet
  • Shape: Upright, open, and spreading
  • Sun Requirements: Full sun
  • Flowers: Rosy red
  • Fruit: Small, bright red; persists through winter
  • Fall Color: Reddish-purple
  • Hardiness Zone: 3–7

An excellent low-litter crabapple for adding spring color, fall interest, and winter food for wildlife while providing strong disease resistance.
