Description

The Shagbark Hickory is a high-branching tree with an oval to round crown.  This hickory has a narrow slender trunk with shaggy bark.  It is self-fertile and will produce nuts in 10-12 years and then annually.  The Shagbark Hickory is drought tolerant and does well in acidic, alkaline, loamy, moist, rich, sandy, wet and clay soils.  Hard, heavy wood, upland tree, sweet nutmeat.
