Description
The White Oak is a big beautiful tree with stout branches. In the fall the leaves turn a brilliant burgundy color. The acorns are sweet and a good source of food for wildlife. Valuable lumber tree.

The white oak makes a good windbreak or yard tree. It grows up to 100 ft tall, can spread up to 75 ft wide, and lives up to 500 years. It has a medium growth rate of 1-2 ft per year. Does well in zones 3-9 and likes moist, well-drained soil. It also does well in heavy clay soil. They are a strong long-lived tree. Does not do well in wet soils. Rarely planted but a magnificent tree.
For a deciduous windbreak, we recommend putting them with other species and spacing them 12-20 ft apart in a single row. We like to use them on the outside of your evergreen windbreaks if you have room. Keep 30 ft from any evergreens to prevent light and root competition.
