Description
The Whitney Crabapple is a hardy, compact fruit tree known for its beautiful spring blossoms, vigorous growth, and heavy crops of delicious fruit. Introduced in Illinois in 1869, this reliable variety produces showy white to pink flowers in spring, followed by small yellow crabapples with attractive red stripes that ripen in late summer.
The crisp, sweet-tart fruit is excellent for fresh eating, canning, and pickling, although it has a relatively short storage life. Whitney is self-pollinating and makes an excellent choice for small yards, home orchards, and edible landscapes. Its attractive flowers and colorful fruit also provide ornamental interest throughout the growing season.
